Friday Night at Fodder - Brilliance on a plate!

Last week Coonawarra Experiences was lucky enough to attend the final dinner for this year put on by the wonderful people at DRINK | OTTELIA + EAT | FODDER. And what a meal it was!

A six-course set menu that showcased the local produce as well as the talent from Paul Stone and his staff in the kitchen.

Before we could consider the option of food our table ordered some Ottelia wines to share. A stunning 2016 Riesling and Pinot Gris were duly poured and festivities were underway!

The first course consisted of Green Olives, Smoked Mozzarella plus Seaweed Cracker, Raw Beef, Bonito Mayonaise. It was the perfect way to kick the taste buds into gear and matched the white wines perfectly.

Olives that made you want many more olives.

We were off and running and the buzz in the room was noticeably getting stronger as was the chatter, a sure sign that people are having a great time. We then had the next course brought out consisting of a tuna dish done with rhubarb and whipped tofu.

This was accompanied by zucchini, house-made ricotta and dill oil. The tuna was just so fresh and melted in the mouth while the ricotta just made the zuccini plate a real winner.

Before the next larger courses came out our group moved onto the reds and ordered the new Ottelia Sangiovese as well as a Pinot Noir and Cabernet.

If you haven't called in for a tasting at Ottelia then you absolutely should. The 2017 Ottelia Mount Gambier Riesling picked up the award for the Karl Seppelt Trophy for Best White Wine, excluding Chardonnay.  As well as the Colin Kidd Trophy for Best White Wine. We have been lucky to sample this vintage and we will be buying more once released to the public.

 The Pork Collar was mouthwatering!

The Pork Collar was mouthwatering!

The two mains were special as well being Quail with pickled quince and cous cous and a Pork Collar with persimmon, potato and chicken sauce.  Again, the plates were presented so beautifully and the flavours melded together wonderfully well.  The whole dining room was having a ball and commenting on the various courses between the tables.

This night was a good gathering of local people but any guest was welcomed as is the case with all that visit Coonawarra

Dessert......I wanted but certainly didn't need two of these!

Rounding out this decadent meal was a dessert dish of Wood Roasted Semifreddo. It seemed to evaporate from my plate but I was reliably informed that I ate it too quickly and wasn't allowed to sample anyone else's within our dining group.

Thumbs up from Chef Paul and the Fodder team creating magic in the kitchen

We had a wonderful night at Fodder and always look forward to dining there whenever we get the opportunity to do so. Melissa, Matilda, Paul and the team do a marvellous job and we are very lucky to have this increasingly less hidden gem in Coonawarra. The guys were recently highly reviewed in the Adelaide Advertiser so the secret is out!

Please ensure you book ahead as Fodder can get very busy on weekends and holiday periods.
